Last week I began to talk about my long standing connection with mountains. Indeed my love for mountains! I have only been on Australian mountains, and one day hope to experience New Zealand ones! While I do find them a spiritual place, and while I have had many meaningful experiences with them they are dangerous. I know of several first hand stories where proficient bushmen have had near death experiences.
To survive well in the mountain, especially if you are backpacking in for an extended stay, you have to be well prepared. This includes a level of physical fitness, quality gear to use, appropriate food and mental fortitude. Many people underestimate the dangers that exists in leaving the beaten track and venturing into the unknown. Preparedness is the key and it always has been. Being ready is essential to enjoying the experience.
There is a significant application to faith that comes from this. Often we engage with the world when we are not prepared to. As followers of Jesus we have a rich resource to draw from. We can be prepared to meet the demands of the world, we can enjoy the experience.
I wonder what you think about this? I wonder how you, as a follower of Jesus, prepare yourself for life?
